Oh, how I love my mum. I really look forward to spoiling her this year on Mother's Day, but it's bittersweet knowing how many people are doing this Mother's Day tough. Too many are grieving the loss of their mother, their child, struggle to begin their mothering journey, or are doing motherhood on their own with little acknowledgement of the impact they make on their little (and not so little) people's lives.
For the constant niggly reminders that all is not as it should be in your world, I'm really sorry. The retail obsession that is Mother's Day makes this even harder.
We can do something to help
I can't fix anything, so it is tempting to sit back and lament how sad it is and move on. But I do hope to be able to make a difference in the lives of someone who is struggling right now.
From 9:00 am today until 9:00 pm tomorrow, I will be donating the profits of all website planner sales to Geelong Mums. Geelong Mums is a local charity that holds a special place in my heart.
Why Geelong Mums?
Geelong Mums make a massive difference in the lives of local women and families. I spent a great many years living on the poverty line. The constant pressure of baby furniture, clothing and accessories needing to be constantly updated as the kids get older was a traumatic one (let's face it, at times it still is). I would have nights without sleep working out where the money would come from to replace nappy or formula supplies that were quickly depleting, and while I was incredibly fortunate to not have to require the services of Geelong Mums, it was an enormous comfort knowing that in the worst-case scenario that they were there, that my kids wouldn't be disadvantaged by my inability to purchase the seemingly never-ending list of things that they needed.
The Geelong Mums impact is massive. In the last financial year, they supported 6,262 local babies and children with the help of their network of 1,075 volunteers and 512 social workers. Each year, Geelong Mums provide a visual of their impact via an Impact Tree. You can view the most recent of these, The 2019-2020 Impact Tree here.
Redistributing Donated Goods
Another cause for my love of Geelong Mums is their rehoming of used goods. Last year, their redistribution of baby and children's goods to where they're needed most prevented up to 18,574 items from going to landfill. It's with great joy that I dropped off baby cots, prams, carriers and other miscellaneous goods as my children outgrew them, knowing that they would be as useful to another family as they were to us.
Filling the gaps
It stands to reason that the goods they need won't always be the ones they have in stock. They rely heavily on the donation of money to fill the gaps in their supplies, and so donations are always welcomed.
Order your planner today to help us make a positive impact
By choosing today or tomorrow to order a planner for your mum this Mother's Day (or even yourself, go wild), you will be donating the total profit of the order to Geelong Mums.
How this works:
- The donation formula we will use is: (Planner Sale Price + Shipping Flat Rate) - (Production Cost + Actual Shipping Cost) = All Profits
- The cost of satchels, packing materials, shipping labels and gift wrap is on us. In the case of free local delivery, we exclude the actual delivery cost from the calculation.
- The total amount donated will be calculated and announced on Wednesday, May 5 in the morning, with the donation to take place on the same day.
- We can only include orders in our donation calculation that have been paid in full by Wednesday morning at 9:00 am. If you choose to pay by Bank Transfer, please complete the transfer before then to make sure your order can be included in the donation.
Make a real difference with your Mother's Day gift
Double your Mother's Day gift impact this Mother's Day. Not only will your mum receive a 3-Month Undated Planner to become her compact daily companion to keep her organised, motivated, and make each day better than the last, but you'll also make a difference in the life of a mum and family doing it tough in our local community.
You can choose between sending it wrapped or unwrapped to your mum or mum-type-person as pictured. Just let us know in the comment section of the checkout if you would like your order gift wrapped.
I look forward to announcing the impact that we make together on Wednesday morning.
